How to Find a Designer for a New Logo

by Lifted Logic

Branding your business, or moving away from your current brand, can be a daunting task.

Before you go about trying to decide on a logo design yourself, you may want to consider seeking out a designer. First, there are a few things you should consider before learning how to find a designer for a new logo.

  1. Budget: Decide what you are willing to spend on a new logo for your business. This may take some outside research into the kinds of services that are out there and what an easy, custom process will cost realistically.
  2. Time: Do you have a special event coming up, or have a launch date for your business? Your future designer will need to know what kind of time frame they have to work with.
  3. Resources: What resources do you already have available to help your future designer? Do you already have brand guidelines in place? Do you have a designer on staff that would be able to work with an outside source?

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to the good stuff.

How to find a designer for a new logo that will be a good fit for your business.

To start, you should look at their portfolio… This is supposed to feature the best of the best in their work, so seeing their portfolio can give you a taste of the kind of experience and results you might be paying for. Then, think about some logo design questions you would like to ask them…. Here are a few questions that, although typically not asked in a design meeting, probably should be:

  • Will you be using open type fonts, or will I have to purchase the font you use?
  • What file types will I receive upon completion of the logo design?
  • Do I have the rights to all of these logo designs upon completion?

Make sure that your designer is a good fit for what you envision your company’s logo looking like in the end. If you pick someone to do your logo design at random, their personal design style may not be a good fit for your business.

There are  a lot of other questions that you could ask before starting a logo design project, but any designer should be open to answering those questions. The designers here at Lifted Logic are always open to sitting down and talking about logo design as well as any other kind of design you are interested in.
