The challenge

Nothing’s more Kansas City than Union Station. With over a century of history, it was time to showcase everything Union Station offers through a website redesign and development.

The main goal was to make Union Station’s wide breadth of attractions and exhibits super user friendly and intuitive to find. Their needs included a main site and microsites for Science City, the planetarium, movie theatre, City Stage Theatre, and the Auschwitz digital exhibition.

Launch Website

How it Went

After meeting with their team and a trip (or two!) to visit ourselves, we strategized an updated site structure and fresh design ideas to capture the wonder of this space. Along with redeveloping the website, we optimized the site with SEO content to drive Kansas Citians to this city hallmark.

One of the biggest challenges was helping users find everything Union Station has to offer, easily.

Our Solution

Out of this challenge, several “microsites” were born. With such a wide audience, separating the main attractions out for users to explore worked best. The next step was figuring out how to visually represent each attraction and make it simple for users to choose an event and book their tickets.

With an easy-to-find events calendar, no matter where they’re at on the site, users can browse day-of or upcoming events and purchase tickets—all in one place.

Microsites Were Born

With an in-house planetarium, movie theatre, live theatre, and more, our designers, developers, and photo/video team collaborated to create captivating animations and visuals for each microsite and its audience.

One of the most profound aspects of this new site build was the Auschwitz digital exhibition microsite, which was created with the purpose of making the exhibit’s message, information, and artifacts available to everyone.

A Digital Piece of Kansas City History

After working with us to write, design, and develop their new website, the train didn’t stop there.

We continue to work with Union Station to build their site traffic through quality SEO, social media, newsletter campaigns, and wherever the train tracks take us.
