The Challenge

Developing the digital Auschwitz Exhibition came with challenges our team had never faced before. We needed to portray this devastating chapter of world history in a way that users could pace themselves through without losing the impact of the material.

At the same time, it was vital to accurately portray the immense weight of the subject matter.

How It Went

There was one thing our team knew when developing the the digital Auschwitz Exhibition—the project was so important and so different from everything else we’ve done that we delivered it pro bono.

In the 279 days Union Station hosted the Auschwitz Exhibition, they hosted more than 315,000 visitors. The Auschwitz Digital Exhibition saw more than 55,000 unique users from 127 countries who viewed the site more than 75,000 times.

Site Features

The basis of the Auschwitz Digital Exhibition was all about presenting the visuals in a way that users could go through at their own pace. We designed scrolling animations that immerse users into the depth of the material in a way that is easy-to-follow and does not overwhelm them with the emotional weight of the content.
