A Letter From The Owner
SEPTEMBER 10th, 2012
Dear Friends of Lifted Logic,
We’ve had some clients expressing concern today about their websites and email accounts which are hosted on GoDaddy. Anonymous, regarded by some to be the most notorious group of internet thugs, have claimed responsibility for today’s takedown of a large portion of GoDaddy. GoDaddy is one of the largest hosting and domain providers in the world, and this worldwide outage is currently affecting an estimated 45 million websites.
As one of Anonymous’ preferred means of attack, DDoS (or Distributed Denial of Service) is presumed the culprit.
“(DDoS is) an attempt to make a machine or network resource unavailable to its intended users. It generally consists of the efforts of one or more people to temporarily or indefinitely interrupt or suspend services of a host connected to the Internet. One common method of attack involves saturating the target machine with external communications requests, such that it cannot respond to legitimate traffic, or responds so slowly as to be rendered effectively unavailable. Such attacks usually lead to a server overload. In general terms, DDoS attacks are implemented by either forcing the targeted computer(s) to reset, or consuming its resources so that it can no longer provide its intended service or obstructing the communication media between the intended users and the victim so that they can no longer communicate adequately.” [ source: wikipedia]
There’s no conclusive solution for DDoS attacks, but we recommend preparing in advance for such catastrophes by doing the following:
We wish the best of luck to GoDaddy and their ability to recover from such a massive attack. For more information about Lifted Logic’s managed hosting services, visit http://liftedlogichosting.com.
