Film Jobs in Kansas City

Who has film jobs in Kansas City? We do.

by Charlie Huette, Creative Director

I taught some post-production classes at KU for a couple of years, and I routinely marveled at how today’s film majors are leaving school with knowledge and skills that apply well beyond traditional TV and movie production. In fact, I would say most of your experiences as a film major (especially your production experience) are directly transferable to Lifted Logic’s work.

At Lifted Logic you’ll collaborate with a diverse team of creatives from a variety of disciplines to create compelling, original content for our clients and ourselves. Your perspective as a film major will enrich our creative process just as your skill set will enhance the quality of our work.

Film majors know visual storytelling

We tell visual stories all day long. All that stuff you learned in film school? You can use it every day, and because we have a pretty small media team, you’ll be able to do it all–shooting, editing, directing, graphics, sound, all of it. And all the stuff you still want to learn? We want to help you learn it and grow into the filmmaker you want to be. That’s why Lifted Logic is more than just a film job in Kansas City: every day is an opportunity to learn new things and grow as a creative professional.

Our work lives on the web. It’s a dynamic context, and so we’re always looking for new ways to tell stories online. Our media team routinely gets together to brainstorm fresh approaches: What techniques are we seeing online? How can we adapt them to our needs? What do we still need to learn? These conversations are equal parts strategy, research, and creativity. Your experience as a film major can help inform and direct these conversations, and your talent can help us put what we learn to good use.

Film majors know the creative tools we use every day

If you’ve successfully earned a film degree, you’ve also picked up some technical skills we can use immediately. For instance: You can probably edit videos and photos. You can probably light an interview or headshot (or our completely badass new cyc wall). You can probably run a camera. You probably understand the basics of file compression, digital workflows, video codecs, LUTs–all that sort of stuff. This is where we live. Having a film degree means you’ll be able to lend a hand the minute you walk through our door.

But also: you are more than just a film major.

Your film degree has prepared you in some ways to work for a digital agency like Lifted Logic, but there’s no degree in the world that can completely prepare you for the complex challenges of the work we do. We think your film degree is great, and we’d love you to share your talent and skill with us. That said, we also understand that your degree doesn’t define you.

This is why we’re less interested in what you bring to Lifted Logic as a film major, and are more interested in what you bring as you–the combination of influences, passions, interests, perspectives, and preoccupations that made you a film major in the first place.

Think you’d be a good fit? Send us your info!

If this point of view resonates with you, and you feel like you’d be a good fit at Lifted Logic, take a minute to poke around the site, get to know us, and check out the open positions. We aren’t your typical journalism job in Kansas City, but you aren’t looking for a typical job, are you? (And that’s why we’ll get along so well!)

If you don’t see a specific position that tickles your fancy, use our virtual application tool to submit your info and help us understand where you may be a good fit! If we agree, we’ll reach out with a task for you that will tell us about your skills and approach to the sorts of work we do every day. We can’t wait to meet you.
